MALAMA NA HONU VOLUNTEER WORKThe Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu) has held a special place in Hawaiian culture since ancient times and is a key element to a healthy sea environment. However, they are now a threatened species as a result of out-of-control commercial exploitation of the creatures that reached its peak in the 20th century. Malama Na Honu is dedicated to helping the sea turtles make a comeback, allowing them safe and comfortable places to bask on Hawaiian shores and documenting them to contribute to a better understanding of their lives. Every day, volunteers from the organization guard the beaches, ensuring that basking honu are not crowded by beachgoers and that visitors are educated about the turtles. Volunteers are always welcome to help promote the survival of this majestic species through vigilance and teaching.
