KOKE'E VOLUNTEER WORKHui o Laka Kōkeʻe is a nonprofit based in Kauai that maintains the Kōkeʻe Museum as a place of natural history and a visitor’s center. Entry into the museum is completely free and allowed every day of the year; Kōkeʻe is supported exclusively by grants, funds from the museum gift shop and CCC Camp, and donations from visitors. Named after its founder, “Kōkeʻe Joe,” as he was called, Hui o Laka Kōkeʻe still emanates the inspiration and courage he had in first establishing the region as a place of natural history. Now, that inspirational and courageous spirit is directed toward nurturing appreciation for the Kōkeʻe region in Kauai’s people through ongoing volunteer efforts, celebrations, hiking trips, and more.
